Configurations for HFA Mechanical Licenses
Keeping track of the one- or two-character codes that HFA assigns to different configurations can be confusing. We have to apply a unique code for each configuration, including differentiation for singles and album-length forms, and often more obvious abbreviations are already taken. Below is a list of HFA's most frequently used configuration codes for our licenses, in alphabetical order.

| CS | Cassette Tape | Analog cassette. | |
| CV | Use in RIAA Agreement-covered Services | Digital configurations covered by the RIAA Agreement and similar subscription service agreements: limited digital downloads, LT and LU; and digital streaming configurations, S and SA. | |
| DL | Express Live DPD | Live performance DPD's (full-length permanent downloads) designed for distribution at a concert venue or via online order. | |
| DP | Digital Phonorecord Delivery (DPD) (Album) | Permanent digital download of an album. | |
| DV | Audio-Only Digital Video Disc (DVD-A) | DVD format designed for enhanced audio playback. | |
| D1 | 2-Sessions Audio-Only DVD/CD Hybrid (Single) | CD single with an additional sound layer (two total) that is playable on a DVD-Audio compatible player. | |
| D2 | 2-Sessions Audio-Only DVD/CD Hybrid (Album) | CD album with an additional sound layer (two total) that is playable on a DVD-Audio compatible player. | |
| FX | Server Fixation | Fixation of digital music files on a centralized server to enable electronic delivery to consumers (for example, a ringtone). | |
| G1 | Guitar Tablature Display, Download and Print Rights | Form of musical notation that specifies guitar fingering. | |
| LD | Local Delivery | Covers electronic distribution of music files from central server to a local unit placed in a commercial setting, such as a digital jukebox in a bar. | |
| LL | Licensed Play | Covers a play of a music file from a local unit placed in a commercial setting, such as a digital jukebox in a bar. | |
| LT | Time-Limited DPD | Temporary digital downloads available on the user's hard drive for a limited period of time. | |
| LU | Use-Limited DPD | Temporary digital downloads available on the user's hard drive for a limited number of uses. | |
| MA | MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) (Album) | A standard for musical sound on electronic devices such as synthesizers and computers. | |
| MB | Music Movement | Musical products such as music boxes producing sound based on mechanical movement. | |
| MC | Mini-Cassette | A portable digital medium. | |
| MD | Mini-Disc | A portable digital medium. | |
| MX | Maxi-Cassette (Single) | Multiple track analog cassette single configuration. | |
| PA | Payable Play | A configuration associated with digital jukebox licenses. | |
| PH | Phonic Ringtone | Mono or polyphonic ringtones. | |
| PL | Digital Pre-Load Single - Load | Preloaded digital music files on a computer hard drive. | |
| PM | Promotional Play | A configuration associated with digital jukebox licenses. | |
| PU | Digital Pre-Load Single - Unlock | Consumer use of a digital music file that had been pre-loaded on a computer hard drive. | |
| RB | Ringback | Song heard by caller after the number is dialed , in place of the ringing signal. | |
| RT | Statutory Ringtone | Statutory Ringtone under Section 115 and the attendant regulations. | |
| RR | Pre-Recorded Ringtone | Mastertone/clip ringtone. | |
| S | Streaming (Single) | Real-time transmission of a single music track over the Internet from a central server. | |
| SA | Streaming (Album) | Real-time transmission of an album music track over the Internet from a central server. | |
| SC | Cassette (Single) | Analog cassette single. | |
| SL | Single | A single released in an unidentified format. | |
| SP | Digital Phonorecord Delivery (DPD) (Single) | Permanent digital download of a single track. | |
| SR | Statutory Roll-up | Roll-up Configuration for Interactive Streaming & Limited Download Offerings under Section 115 and the attendant regulations. | |
| SS | Super Audio CD (SACD) (Single) | CD format designed for enhanced audio playback. | |
| SU | SACD (Album) | CD format designed for enhanced audio playback. | |
| S2 | 2-Session SACD / CD (Single) | CD with an additional sound layer that is playable on SACD compatible players. | |
