  Licensing through HFA

HFA is the premier music industry resource for mechanical licensing and for the licensing of new configurations. HFA actively researches new formats in order to continuously deliver new licensing opportunities to our clients.

For more information on licensing services, visit the following pages:

To request a mechanical license, click here to obtain a request form and begin the licensing process (to request less than 2500 licenses, please visit Limited Quantity Licensing). If you are new to HFA, please visit Licensee Registration or Publisher Registration, as applicable, for more information on how to begin using HFA's licensing services.

If you are interested in licensing music represented by HFA for digital use, please fill out our New Media Licensing Application.

For current royalty rate information, please review the Statutory Royalty Rates page. It should be noted that a mechanical license does not include the right to reproduce an already existing sound recording (called a master use right). That is a separate right, which must be procured from the copyright owner of such sound recording.

HFA issues mechanical licenses that are valid for products manufactured and distributed in the USA (including its territories and possessions) only. If you wish to import recordings manufactured outside of the U.S. into the country, you will need to obtain an import license.
